There are a few ways to find and get an agent quickly for your book. In this report I’ll deal with the most popular. To begin with, your book doesn’t need to be complete. You could have written only a couple of chapters and have a complete outline of your book and that will do nicely. In fact, agents and publishers almost always take on books before they are completed. They need a couple of chapters to see that you can actually write and they need the entire outline to know what the book will be about. And, to be even more specific, the two chapters don’t have to be the first two of the book. They can be completely random. Again, their purpose is to show the agent or the publisher that you can actually write. By the way, this technique works for both fiction and non-fiction. Your first step is to get yourself to the local book store and find a handful of books written in the same genre as your own. Thriller, mystery, self-help, carpentry, whatever. Open the books and on one of the first few pages you’ll see the name of the publisher of the book and their city location. Jot down the names of these publishers and the book titles. Then you’re off back home. When you get there, pick up the telephone and call these publishers. If you don’t know how to do that, no problem. In the front of your telephone book there should be a listing of area codes for the cities you’re interested. All you have to do is call information for these cities and ask for the telephone numbers of these companies. You can find them on the internet as well, of course, this is just the old method. You call information by dialing the area code, followed by 555-1212. It’s the same number regardless of the area code. Ask for the correct number, jot it down for future reference, and you’re on your way. Now you’ve got to call the number and start getting that agent. When the publisher’s phone is answered, tell them you’re trying to find the person who holds the rights to (name of book) because you want to make a movie of it, or a video training guide, or a work book, create a calendar, or develop an audio program, or whatever else you can think of. The person who holds the rights to this book will almost always be the agent for the author. Ask for a contact name, number and address if they have it. Now you have the agent contact information for your. Send each one an agent acquisition letter. This is a simple, one-page letter that sells your book aggressively and tells the agent why you book would be a very big seller. Remember, the letter must convince the agent that your book would be a very big seller. Any sentence, ANY sentence that does not tell the agent why your book will be a big seller should be removed from that sales letter. The agent is not really interested in you (unless you’re a celebrity because that means the book will sell more). And, frankly, they don’t care how well you write, or your commitment to improving the world. They want to know only why this book would be a best seller and why they’d be out of their (financially greedy) minds not to grab it right away! One page, that’s all. They can make their decision based solely on that. When you’re finished writing it, read it over yourself and ask yourself, candidly, does this letter make you want to reach into your own pocket and pay $20,000 to get hold of the rights? If it doesn’t, then you’ve got to make that letter better. Mail the letters, Remember, just the letters, not the chapters, to all the prospective agents and then start working on your next book or find a few more agents for this one. Once you’ve sent off about 20 to 30 letters, you can stop. You’ve covered all the agents who are significant in this area. Don’t bother following up. If the agent doesn’t call you, it means they don’t think you book (as you’ve presented it) is a good bet for success. And it also means your agent acquisition letter was weaker than you thought. Revise it, re-write it and send it to other agents, and even back to those original agents. Now, want to get that agent in just hours? No problem. Fax the letter to them. I’ve had success with this strategy in as little as 6 hours!! Steve Manning is an accomplished writer with more than 20 years of experience under his belt. Copywriting has become a remarkably well-paid job in recent years, and will continue to be so as long as the Internet relies on the written word. It take time and effort to become a good copywriter, and your writing performance will determine most of the projects that you will likely perform in the future. These three steps can help you improve your copywriting skill and maximize your income. No matter what article you are writing, the first priority is to identify your target audience. You have to know your audience in order to know what will be most useful and appealing to these readers. You should be able to answer questions about what your reader is seeking and what he or she wants to accomplish. If you are working on a project for a specific client, these questions can be more easily answered if you find what objectives your client is trying to achieve and cater the information and presentation towards those goals. Once you have everything you need, and have thought about how the finished product will appear, it is possible to start the creative process. While writing, ensure that your spelling and grammar are clear. Do not include unnecessary words. The two things to remember are to tell your readers the main point, and to serve the viewers and the people paying you. Be sure to include copy that is well-written as well as organized. Remember, quality of the article should be your top priority. The final version that you submit needs to be absolutely flawless. Make sure that you have reread the article and checked for grammar and spelling, as well as consistency and flow. For articles that you are writing for clients with SEO requirements, be sure that you have provided enough keywords and phrases to help increase the article’s rank in search engines. Only good copywriters are successful, and good writers provide only their best work. You can get a free copy of our latest ebook by clicking here: The 7 Keys To Business Marketing Success. Source: .himalayanaffairs.org JAMMU, FEB 26 As the death toll in the avalanche-hit Jammu and Kashmir is increasing day by day, the security forces have recovered the bodies of few terrorists who had taken shelter in the foothills of Pir Panjal mountain ranges to escape the clutches of security forces. Little did these terrorists know that they wouldn’t be able to escape Nature’s fury even if they hide from the army. These terrorists were also buried alive with hundreds of other civilians in the avalanches that stuck in a big way in three Qazigund villages situated in the foothills of Pir Panjal. Though the army in Kashmir is not confirming these reports, however the sources told The Statesman that a few bodies with weapons and AK-series guns were recovered from the areas in Kapran which had come under heavy snow. Kapran in South Kashmir is heavily militancy-infested area and it touches the areas in the South of Pir Panjal. “Yes, we have also heard these reports that few bodies of terrorists have been recovered but there is no confirmation as yet,” said Colonel Batra, the Public Relations Office, 15 Corp of Indian Army based in Badami Bagh, Srinagar. Not only that, five terrorists who were rescued by the Indian army in its rescue and search operations from the area, have also surrendered after seeing the humanitarian work of the forces. The Union Defence minister Mr Pranab Mukherjee told the media at the technical airport late last evening that this was significant as they were moved by the work being done by the army for the people. Interestingly, the Army in Jammu and Kashmir is tight-lipped about this development also and nobody is coming out with any information regarding this interesting development. The chief of army staff General Joginder Jaswant Singh however said the troops wouldn’t harm any injured militant voluntarily dropping ammunition before the personnel in the snow avalanche hit areas of South Kashmir. by Philip Yaffe Abraham Lincoln, America’s iconic 16th President (1861-65), was never known as either a great writer or a great orator. Yet he penned one of the most highly praised and oft-quoted speeches in history. It was probably so good because it clearly expressed his controlled passion towards the monumental event he was talking about. Nevertheless, it is possible to dispassionately analyze it and draw some important lessons. This great piece of oratory is known simply as The Gettysburg Address because it was delivered by President Lincoln in 1863 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to mark a pivotal victory in the American Civil War. Some reports suggest that he scribbled it on the back of an envelope just before arriving in Gettysburg. This is a myth, but the emotion it engenders makes the story seem more than plausible. Let’s analyze the speech sentence by sentence. But first read the whole thing - there are only 272 words - as a first approach to appreciating what a miniature masterpiece it truly is. The Gettysburg Address (November 19, 1863) Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation - or any nation so conceived and so dedicated - can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember, what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us. That from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion. That we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain. That this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom. And that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth. Analysis Sentence 1 Four score and seven years ago, our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. The language of the mid-19th century was somewhat more florid than what we use today. But it appears that Mr. Lincoln purposely employed such phraseology to give his first words almost biblical importance. He could have said, “Eighty-seven years ago, our country was founded based on the idea that all men are created equal.” Hardly the same thing, is it? Sentence 2 Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation - or any nation so conceived and so dedicated - can long endure. The sentence begins, “Now we are engaged in a great civil war . . . .” This is very plain language, almost banal, suggesting that war is a mean and dirty business. The rest of the sentence then reverts to more sophisticated language to ennoble the purposes of the war. Note the repetition the words “conceived” and “dedicated” from Sentence 1. This heightens the impact of the statement, which would have been seriously weakened if Mr. Lincoln had believed it mandatory to avoid such repetition. Sentence 3 We are met on a great battlefield of that war. This is another banal statement. It could easily have been combined with Sentence 4 by saying “battlefield of that war in order to dedicate . . . .” But notice how much stronger it is standing by itself. This is an excellent example of the “separation” technique, i.e. dividing a sentence in order to heighten its impact. Sentence 4 We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. This sentence once again contains a repetition, or at least a near repetition: “ . . . who here gave their lives that that nation might live.” The words “lives” and “live” complement each other and reinforce Mr. Lincoln’s thought. He could have chosen “survive”, “overcome”, “prosper”, or a dozen other alternatives to avoid this near repetition. But none of them would have been anywhere near so effective. Sentence 5 It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. Yet another banal statement, providing dramatic contrast between the sophisticated statement that preceded it and the sophisticated statement that follows it. Sentence 6 But in a larger sense, we can not dedicate, we can not consecrate, we can not hallow this ground. Note the near repetition created by the words “dedicate”, “consecrate”, “hallow”. This is almost tautological, as it was meant to be in order to emphasize the thought. Sentence 7 The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract. Note the repetition of the word “consecrated”: the tautology continues, further emphasizing the thought of the previous sentence. Sentence 8 The world will little note, nor long remember, what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. Oh, what an understatement! Mr. Lincoln probably truly believed this, but he was wrong. Virtually every American schoolchild learns these words by heart, and the speech is known and recognized as a masterpiece well beyond the borders of the United States. Sentence 9 It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us. This sentence, although divided by periods in the written form, is in fact a single, unified thought. However, it is quite easy to understand thanks to repetition of the word “devotion” and use of “internal bullet points”, indicated by repeated use of the word “that”. The sentence powerfully expresses Mr. Lincoln’s conviction about the purposes of the war that he passionately hated yet found himself constrained to pursue. The last “bullet point” has almost become America’s national motto: “That government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” The Gettysburg Address appears to be deceptively simple; however; the writing techniques it uses are impeccably professional. To be so clear and so concise while saying so much is truly a magnificent achievement. It should be an inspiration to us all. Everyone is talking about RSS. Blogs, newsites and the like are putting those little orange RSS link thingies all over their sites. What’s all the hype about? Okay, email will always have its purpose in life. But many people are realizing that RSS is an excellent alternative to email for newsletters or other mass-distribution lists. Here are three HUGE advantages of RSS over Email: 1) RSS is totally spam-proof. It cannot be blocked by any spam filter no matter what! Because RSS is a web page, you simply cannot block it. I like to think of it like the difference between a telemarketer and a TV commercial. A telemarketer can initiate the call, just like anyone can send an email. Any unwelcome message or phone call can be filtered or screened, but there is always that chance that something important will be deleted! So the end result is that it still takes your time and effort to filter email or screen calls, and there still is no guarantee that your efforts will be 100% accurate! A TV viewer on the other hand must turn on the TV and find a channel first, just like an RSS feed must be entered into an RSS Reader. It is totally at the viewer’s discretion. If you ever get sick of a TV channel, you can change it immediately, just like you can delete an RSS Feed! 2) RSS eliminates all fear of being spammed. Think of how many more subscribers you could have to your newsletter if your website visitors had NO FEAR about being spammed by you! People by nature do not trust you the first time they meet you, and on the internet it is even worse. Why would they give out their closely guarded email address to you? Of course some will, but you have to make the deal pretty sweet in order to convince them. But what about the people who are just curious, and can’t make it over that hurdle to part with their address? By delivering your newsletter or mini-course content over an RSS Feed, you both win! Visitors can take a spectator approach without fear of getting spam, and you have a way to establish regular contact with your visitors in the same way email can! 3) No more clogged email servers! Sending a message to a large list can really bog down your mail server and can take a long time. If your list has 100,000 email addresses, you are basically telling your mail server to establish a connection with 100,000 different servers immediately! Some web hosts even limit the number of messages you can send. With RSS, you can avoid mail servers altogether! Downloading an RSS Feed is no different than downloading a web page. While this does place a slightly extra burden on your webserver, it is minimal since it is spread out over time and it only has to deliver a page whenever one is requested, not all at once. Spam could eventually become a thing of the past for mass-distribution lists and autoresponders. I think it’s just a matter of time! Feel free to reprint this article so long as you include the resource box listed with the article. One way of promoting your website and product can be achieved for free. As an additional bonus, this “free” method can boost your sites and sales, doubling and even tripling your income. Articles. One of the easiest ways to promote your website in order to generate traffic and increase your earnings. How does this work? Write articles relating to your website and submit them to “free content” submission sites. Easy to do, takes little time and can increase your website traffic, sales and of course, your income. How can article writing boost traffic and income? The article on the free content site contains a link to your own website. Readers, after reading your articles, may choose to click on the link and pay you an unexpected visit. Having them on the free content sites is also making these articles available to other webmasters who may wish to publish that article on their site. If they do, your article will include a link back to your site. And anyone who reads the article on that site can still click on the link to visit your site. As the list of your published articles grow larger, and more and more of them are appearing on different websites, the total number of links to your site increases also. Major search engines are placing a lot of significance on incoming links to websites so they can determine the importance of a certain site. The more incoming links the website has, the more importance search engines attaches to it. This will then increase your website’s placement in the search results. If you site is into promoting a product or service, the links that your articles have achieved will mean more potential customers for you. Even if visitors only browse through, you never know if they might be in need of what you are offering in the future. There are also those who already have specific things they need on their mind but cannot decide yet between the many choices online. Chances are, they may stumble upon one of your articles, gets interested by the contents you wrote, go to your site and became enticed by your promotions. See how easy that is? Search engines do not just index the websites, they also index published articles. They also index any article that is written about your own website’s topic. So once someone searches for that same topic, the list of results will have your site or may even show the articles that you have written. And to think, no effort on your part was used to bring them to your site. Just your published articles and the search engines. It is no wonder why many webmasters are suddenly reviving their old writing styles and taking time to write more articles about their site than doing other means of promotion. Getting their site known is easier if they have articles increasing their links and traffic and making it accessible for visitors searching the internet. Since many people are now taking their buying needs online, having your site on the search engines through your articles is one way of letting them know about you and your business. The good thing with articles is that you can write about things that people would want to know about. This can be achieved in the lightest mood but professional manner, with a little not-so-obvious sales pitch added. If you think about it, only a few minutes of your time is spent on writing one article and submitting to free content site. In the shortest span of time also, those are distributed to more sites than you can think of. Even before you know what is happening, you are getting more visitors than you previously had. If you think you are wasting your time writing these articles, fast forward to the time when you will see them printed and wide-spread on the internet. Not to mention the sudden attention and interest that people are giving your website and your products or services. Try writing some articles and you will be assured of the sudden surge in site traffic, link popularity and interest. Before you know it, you will be doubling and even tripling your earnings. Nothing like getting benefits for something you got for free.
