Break out of your comfort zone: Write and relate with those who are different to YOU. Traditionally, when we contemplate the Internet and all its inherent possibilities in terms of relating and communicating with other people, we think of it as a tool to meet those who are similar to us. In an era where people can often feel disconnected to one another because of overpopulation, geographical separation, or differences in perspectives on life, the Internet has become a medium where we can meet others of like mind, belief, experience and who have similar interests and fields of expertise. However, let us view the other side of the proverbial coin of communicative opportunity: The Internet opens channels where we can meet and learn to understand and empathise with those who have completely different outlooks to our own. Opening our eyes to try and feel what it’s like to experience and perceive the world from a person’s shoes that we’d normally never spend time relating with is a chance to expand our minds, as well as our compassion and comprehension of other human beings. For example, let’s say you’re travelling on public transport in your home city, be it on the bus, train, tram, boat, or even taxi. When are you most likely to start up a conversation with a stranger? Usually, the answer will be when you see something in that person that relates to your own world. If you’re an Information Technology student and you see someone reading a Wired magazine, there’s a definite sign the person in question may have something of interest to say. Why do we talk to strangers on occasion? It’s because we’re social creatures, and we’ve learnt to understand that you never know when your meeting with a new person could change your life, be it in a small or large fashion. When do we not think twice about talking to someone? That’s easy; when the person looks like someone we have nothing in common with, we often feel speaking to them would be a waste of time and effort. Don’t judge a book by its cover! How many interesting people, whether or not they have something in common with us, do we miss out on meeting everyday? How many people have you come across whom after getting to know them, are totally different from your preconceived ideas of what they’d be like? How many had different views than your own, but were very interesting nonetheless? The Internet gives us access to many different kinds of people, via their websites, blogs, forums, chat rooms etc. Why only search out those people that already see life similarly, or who are interested in the same topics as you? If you believe in and write about the virtues of democracy, does this mean you should discount the socialist’s perspective on society? Their views are just as valid as your own, and if you do attempt to understand their perspectives, you never know what depth of knowledge you can achieve. When our minds expand, so do the depths of our actions. Instead of judging others for having different beliefs, why not undertake a rapport with the opposing side? Discussion and conversation via blog comments etc. gives us an opportunity to gain insight, and thus wisdom, by obtaining a more holistic view of an issue. Take a classical pianist who one day accidentally walks into a bar where the piano player is playing jazz. Do they walk straight back outside because the whole jazz philosophy contrasts so intensely to their own learned classical musical theories? Or, do they wait until the end of the show to have a chat with the jazz player? This is how new genres of music have formed. If we’re open to new ideas, even if they clash with our own current way of seeing things, the results can be phenomenal. On the Internet you may have a blog or website dedicated to your love of digital photography. There are lots of other people you can ‘talk shop’ with out there, to get new ideas on how to make interesting and artistic photos. But what about that lady whose site is dedicated to the more archaic and traditional SLR camera photographic techniques? If you strike up a conversation with her about why she chooses to stick with the old technology, you never know what insight it could give you for your own efforts. The experience of relating to people different from ourselves may not be comfortable for you, especially if you hold your belief close to your heart, and others’ beliefs are in direct contrast to your own. Let’s say you have a ‘Pro choice’ website that is dedicated to spreading the word about the right to have an abortion. Normally, in this situation we might steer clear of ‘Pro life’ websites and blogs whose content is the complete anathema of our own. However, if you can communicate, read and relate to these opposing idealists, a lot could come from the experience. At the least, you’ll have a much better idea of why they believe what they do, and know like yourself, they’re simply people who believe they’re doing something for the good of humanity. Anger could dissipate, empathy could be ignited and friends could be made. If you have a small business that sells a niche product like skateboards, you could focus all of your writing and marketing efforts on attracting the people who already buy your product. On the other hand, the real way to expand your income opportunities is to excite people who currently have little interest in what you do. What kind of articles or promotions could you write that might incite new types of customers to buy? It’s so easy for us to find a comfortable place in the world, whether it’s in our living room, neighbourhood, or website/Internet community. The danger with becoming too comfortable is that our minds become stiff and brittle, our emotions numb and our spirits hungry for something more. When we write on the Internet, be it on a blog or your own company’s website, don’t be afraid to communicate with those who you imagine are different to you. What other people have to offer isn’t written on their faces, and often isn’t even written on their site’s pages; the act of exploration into the often scary, mysterious unknown can show us what our community as a whole has to offer, as well as what we ourselves have to give to others. Developing an individual writing process is key to your success as a writer. Studies of struggling writers show that one of the reasons they struggle is that they focus on only one aspect of writing. So what is the writing process? First it is important to note that there is no such thing as “the writing process”. Yes, there is a writing process that embraces the notion that there are certain essential steps that successful writers employ when writing but that process varies greatly depending on the writer and then individual writers also vary their process according to the writing task at hand. That means that there is no such as “the writing process” but that a personal, individual writing process which you adjust to the varying circumstances of your writing can be tremendously helpful. However, before you can begin to individualize your writing process and then adjust it to different tasks, you must learn more about the theory behind the writing process. The theory of writing process begins with prewriting or invention stage. This is when you may need to do brainstorming, research, and planning to get started with your writing project. This is the stage that struggling writers spend the least time on and experienced writers spend much more time as they know that more attention and thought at this stage can save time and effort later. This stage may have a lot to show for it in terms of prewriting and research or it might take place primarily inside the writer’s brain. This depends on the individual writer, the complexity of the task, and the familiarity of the writer with the task. Only after spending time at the prewriting stage do writers move on to drafting. This is where the actual writing takes place but encompasses more than one draft and several sessions of writing spread over time. Drafting focuses on simply getting words on paper and emptying the brain of ideas for this project. Writers move on to revision after those early drafts have filled out and developed some substance. It is during the multiple drafts of the revision stage that the writing project shapes into something resembling the intended final project. The paper is not yet done but it looks and feels like the intended genre, the ideas are fully developed and the organization is functional. Then writers move on the editing stage where they attend to correctness issues including cleaning up spelling, grammar, word choice, and polishing the writing. This is the correct time to deal with these issues as concentrating on them earlier in the writing process will slow down the development of ideas. After editing, writers should seek out feedback for the final stage of the writing process to determine what further revision or editing might be necessary to complete the writing project. Feedback should be sought from skilled readers familiar with either the subject matter or the type of writing project so they can offer more informed review. While each individual writing process will include some general variation of these elements it is important for writers to recognize that an effective writing process reflects their own individual strengths, weaknesses, and work habits. The writing process should also vary according to the project as well. Obviously a new, complex project will demand much more during prewriting and invention than a familiar topic and comfortable project genre. Many authors, more than you could possibly believe, have the one of the greatest books of all time locked in a safe, file cabinet, file folder, or computer. Why have writers got a backlog of brilliant material hidden away? Because writers write. Prolific writers write prolifically. Ask writers you meet at Mark’s Megas, at Book Expo America, at various writers meetings and workshops, or at the Maui Writers Conference, and you will find a lot of talented writers with their opus, looking for someone to partner with and market them and their book to greatness. Two major writers you know are examples of authors who wrote more than their publishers would accept and found a way to publish their body of work. The publishing industry historically wants only one book from an author every two years. Stephen King had to write under several best-selling pseudonyms. Nora Roberts told Mark that in longhand she can write 55,000 words a week that are nearly flawless and ready to publish and sell. Nora had to write many bestsellers under the pseudonym J.D. Robb to get her work out and be able to continue to write energetically. Another way to do it is to find public domain books and material and re-author and re-copyright them. This is a big business that is little known. In the book business, work that was created (fixed in tangible form for the first time) on or after January 1, 1978, is automatically protected from the moment of its creation and is ordinarily given a term enduring for the author’s life plus an additional 70 years after the author’s death. In the case of “a joint work prepared by two or more authors who did not work for hire,” the term lasts for 70 years after the last surviving author’s death. Have your attorney check the status of material that you may be interested in adapting to see if it may be in the public domain already. In the area of self-help-action books, Charles “Tremendous” Jones in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, created The Executive Books Company. Tremendous, as he is affectionately called, rewrote the forewords and introductions to ancient classics like James Allen’s As a Man Thinketh and hundreds of others. He has inspired lots of nonreaders to become readers and is most known for his famous statement “You will be the same person you are today five years from now, except for the books you read, the audios you listen to, and the seminars that you attend.” Charles has sold hundreds of millions of dollars worth of these books via different means: from the platform when he speaks, in volume to major direct-selling companies like Amway, and book-by-book to his colleague speakers, friends, and customers.

In June of 2005, I became a freelance copywriter. Since that time, I’ve worked with 65 different clients. I’ve written three or more projects with some clients. Other clients have been working with me for longer than two years. So I’ve been able to observe what works and what doesn’t. After trying a number of different approaches, I’ve concluded there are two primary ways of writing a sales letter that works. Method #1: Create the best letter possible. The majority of clients want the “best” sales copy possible. They don’t want anything less than this. A client like this will ask me to go through endless edits and revisions. He will tweak words throughout the letter. He will change his mind more often than he changes clothes. A client like what I’ve described is convinced that a long, drawn-out editing process will produce the best sales copy possible. But let me pose a question. How do we determine what is “best?” Is it based on our own opinion — or the market’s opinion? A client who tries to create the “best” sales copy possible is convinced he knows what’s “best.” And so he continues editing for days — even weeks — thinking he’s making a difference. When, for more details visit to .sales-letter-secret.com really, his work is counter-productive. Think about it… is one word way down on page 12 going to appreciably change the conversion rate or how prospects react to the product or service being sold? Not really. Here’s my opinion: Neither you nor I know what’s “best” when it comes to writing copy and converting prospects into customers. We are only armed with educated opinions. Those opinions are only validated once the letter has been put to the test. With that in mind, let me show you… Method #2: Create a letter that’s “good enough.” This second method is completely different than the first. It acknowledges up front that all we have are educated opinions. This assumption leads us to create a sales letter that’s good enough so we can then test it to see how the market responds. Using this somewhat controversial approach, for more details visit to .web-sales-letter-supreme.com you can write a strong sales letter that hits all the key selling points and makes a noble effort to win customers to your product or service. Of course, you will probably want to do some minor editing, but not too much. Because your goal is to get the letter out there to see how well the market responds. So. We’ve got a good enough letter, we send prospects to read it, and we see how well it works. But it doesn’t stop there. The next step is to test various elements to see how they affect conversion — for better or worse. Of course, the idea is to improve the letter by degrees, based on the actual response rate, until you have a letter that is truly great. So… which method do you subscribe to? Which one should you be using? The first method is for writers/clients with big egos. They are convinced their way is best. They believe the greatness of a letter is determined by how much they love it. FOR MORE INFORMATION : .sales-letters-creator.com .sales-letter-secret.com

Every footstep carries with it a slight smile. Each precious push off the ground drives me closer to peace. I am blessed with my surroundings, as they are the most beautiful I have yet to experience. I am able to enjoy them daily, however, the only way to completely enjoy them is to become a part of them. When I breathe with the Earth, and share it’s surface with each touch, I am in my own heaven. Health and wellness naturally come with trail running, but the sensations of accomplishment, pleasure, and confidence, that I am able to feel each short term, are why I run. When every stride is euphoric, I know I love what I am doing. When the next stride is where my goals are set, I know I love what I am doing. I run toward my life, embracing the world around me. Each run is a hunt for a similar impression, as a soft brush stroke to a canvas. Each stroke, individually, is made with veneration and depicts serenity. Combined, I paint one great masterpiece, throughout my life. It is a work of art to be adored and appreciated, yet is so far from complete. When I run on my trails, I hold my head high, for no witnesses. I exercise for the body, but I run for the soul. Each spiritual encounter joins together to create a unity that is one long trail of harmony. There is so much I run for really, but this just came off the top of my head. runonearth.com/

How to create powerful and compelling back cover copy that sells books! By Peter Bowerman (Adapted from The Well-Fed Self-Publisher: How to Turn One Book into a Full-Time Living, by Peter Bowerman. Fanove, 2007. .wellfedsp.com). Note: The following guidelines for the layout of your back cover are for non-fiction, where my expertise lies. Needless to say, fiction, where you simply need to entrance someone with a good story line, would be different. Think about how you buy a book. You pick it up, look at the cover, and if you like the visuals, title, and subtitle, it’s because something resonates in you; something about what you see calls to some desire or longing inside you. That desire could be anything. In the case of a novel (or even non-fiction), it might be to have a transcendent reading experience
