<title> From the Wisdom Vault… Getting Past the Struggle Struggling is a favorite pastime of human beings. With all our needs well met, we’ll still find some reason to struggle. When my clients say, “I’m struggling!” I imagine them up to their neck in a mud pit, arms flailing but not going anywhere. It’s a painful place to be. Small Thinking Being stuck is almost always about a limited perspective. Our thoughts betray us because we’re thinking small. It begins with all this agonizing over how?! And suddenly we’re locked onto a lose/lose point of view. What would it be like to simply stop struggling? That’s right. Escape instantly out of the mud pit every time we fall in? It would be like having endless “get out of jail free” cards in the game of life. Zoom Out If I want to see something clearly, I back away from the details. I want both a new way to think and a renewed sense of direction. I like to get way back, beyond the 30,000-foot view, so I go to another dimension to look at my current situation. Cosmic Thinking I imagine that I and all the other between-worlds souls are sitting around planning my life. Contracts are being made with this soul and that one; people who will help me learn what I need to in this next life. We are smart. We know exactly the set of circumstances that will be needed to take me to this next threshold. I ask myself: “If I designed this struggle, what is it exactly that I’m trying to learn now? What is in my thoughts or belief systems that is no longer in alignment with who I am now?” It’s amazing how quickly this works. As soon as I believe that I created this hole I’m stuck in and I know the way out, then I can see the way out. And, if I need a hand to get out of the mud pit, my coach is always a great ally. Try this cosmic thinking with yourself and with your clients. And if you need an ally, hire a mentor coach. Exposition This family was a victim of a problem they could have avoided-a problem that, according to Florida park rangers, hundreds of visitors suffer each year. “Several times a month,” ranger Rod Torres of O’Leno State Park said, “people get scared and leave the park in the middle of the night.” Those people picked the wrong kind of park to visit. Not that there was anything wrong with the park: The hikers camped next to them loved the wild isolation of it. But it just wasn’t the kind of place the couple from New Jersey had in mind when they decided to camp out on this trip through Florida. If they had known about the different kinds of parks in Florida, they might have stayed in a place they loved. Comments on exposition: •?Exposition is explanatory writing •?Exposition can be an incidental part of a description or a narration, or it can be the heart of an article •?Aside from clarity, the key problem with exposition is credibility. What makes your explanation? Believable? Normally, writers solve this problem by citing authorities who have good credentials and good reason to be experts in the subject. •?This paragraph also happens to serve as the justifier or “nut graf” for the little article: the paragraph that, after an indirect opening, specifies the topic of the article, why it is important, and what is to come. Definition “Park” is difficult to define in Florida, because there are so many kinds of parks. Basically, a park is a place to go for outdoor recreation-to swim, picnic, hike, camp, walk the dog, play tennis, paddle your canoe, and, in some places take rides in miniature trains or swish down a waterslide. Florida has a rich variety of parks, ranging from acres of RVs ringed around recreation halls, to impenetrable mangrove wilderness. To make things more complicated, not all of them are called “parks,” and even the ones called “parks” come in several varieties. Comments on definition: •?Never define anything by the “according to Webster’s” method. Meaning is found in the world, not in the dictionary. Bring the world into your story and use it to define your terms. •?Saying what something is NOT can help readers; but make a strong effort to say what it IS. Description O’Leno is a good example of a state park in Florida. Surrounded by the tall, shaded woods of a beautiful hardwood forest, the Santa Fe River disappears in a large, slowly swirling, tree-lined pool. After appearing intermittently in scattered sinkholes, the river rises three miles downstream in a big boil, then continues on to meet the Suwannee and the sea. Nearby, stands of cypress mirror themselves in the still waters, walls of dense river swamp rise before you, sudden sinkholes open in the woodlands-rich with cool ferns and mosses. Farther from the river, expanses of longleaf pinelands stretch across rolling hills. In the midst of this lovely setting, you find 65 campsites, 18 rustic cabins, and a pavilion for group meetings. A diving platform marks a good place to swim in the soft, cool waters of the Santa Fe, and canoeing up this dark river is like traveling backwards in time in the direction of original Florida. Comments on description: •?Description is not what you saw, but what readers need to see in order to imagine the scene, person, object, etc. •?Description requires you to record a series of detailed observations. Be especially careful to make real observations. The success of a description lies in the difference between what a reader can imagine and what you actually saw and recorded; from that gap arises a spark of engagement. •?Use sensory language. Go light on adjectives and adverbs. Look for ways to describe action. Pay special attention to the sound and rhythm of words; use these when you can think that your language is not so much describing a thing as describing a frame around the thing
Writing anxiety and writing block are informal terms that are used to denote pessimistic and anxious feeling about writing. Researches showed that the majority of students exhibit unusually strong apprehension about writing. This debilitating condition forces students to avoid majors, jobs, and courses that require writing. In fact, having some level of writing anxiety can help you concentrate, really your thoughts together, and devote all of them to writing. However, in excessive quantities it can become a hindrance; here is where the actual problem lies. Some experienced writers claim that this feeling has the situational character and is not pervasive in person’s writing life. Others say that writing block and anxiety show up only during our most stressful deadline-driven periods, and stay until we find the way to show them the door. Writing anxiety encroaches upon a writer, who doesn’t know what to write about, or simply doesn’t know where to start writing, and is usually accompanied by (1) continuous procrastination of the writing tasks, (2) becoming nervous because of the impossibility to write anything at all, (3) quickening heartbeat, and sweaty palms. All in all, every writer, at least once in his life, experiences moments, which create anxiety. Surely, there is a great deal of variations among individuals; however, there are some common experiences that writers can find stressful. Writing anxiety can be a result of a great variety of social, academic, and personal factors. Some of them are: • Writing for readers that have previously been overly critical and demanding to the writer’s work. • Working in limited or unstructured time. • Adjusting to the new forms of writing that causes some troubles to the writer. • Being preoccupied with college life and social issues. • Professors that may seem intimidating and relentless. • Fear to failure. Such circumstances can increase the stress level of the writer and become an awful distraction. The good news is that there are ways to restore writing equilibrium and get down to writing. Here are some practical steps to help writers unlock their writing talents. I. Brainstorming and organizing your ideas Brainstorming and organizing your ideas are as important as the process of actual writing. As a matter of fact, it provides a guaranteed solution to overcome the writer’s block. This strategy is very simple. You begin with a blank sheet of paper or a computer screen. You write your topic at the top, and, then, write everything you can about it. While brainstorming different ideas, you don’t care about grammar and editing, you simply brainstorm various approaches to the subject matter under consideration. When you are completely out of ideas, you look at the list of the jotted ideas, and reconsider your topic, cutting down the ideas that stray away from it. Then, you organize these ideas and find the central idea that gives a decent place to start the first draft, and states an essential truth about your topic. Since you have found the leading idea, try to arrange all the other points in the logical order that you’ll use in your essay. II. Free writing Free writing is one of the best ways around the writer’s block. Free writing is a non-stop writing designed to uncover ideas that has no rules and forms to follow. Focused free writing involves writing on a particular topic as a means to discover what you already know or think about it. It helps you write when you don’t feel like writing, loosens you up and gets you moving. You write down the topic at the top of the page. Then, you set your clock for five or ten minutes, and put your pen to paper. The main idea is to write for a short, specified period of time, keeping your hand moving until your time is up. Remember that you are not allowed to stop, even if you have nothing to say, write first that occurs to your mind in the act of writing. And one more thing to remember is that you don’t form any judgments about what you are writing. When the time is up, you go back over the text, and identify ideas that should carry over your text. III. Clustering Like brainstorming and free associating, clustering allows you to start writing without any clear ideas. To begin to cluster choose the word, which is central to your assignment, write this word at the middle of the paper. All around it place the words that occur to you when you think about this word. In such a way you write down all the words that you associate with this concrete word. You write it quickly, circling each word, grouping them around your central word, and connecting the new words to the previous ones. Clustering doesn’t have to be logically built and well-structured; it allows you to explore new insights without committing them to a particular order. Hope that these options will help you handle your writing anxiety and forget about this mental deadlock once and for all! Write Like A Professional By Following These Four Rules I. Plot - No matter the definition, a plot is essentially the storyline, or sequences of events that makes up a story. All plots should include conflict, addressing an internal or external argument that deals with other people or events, either way it must be both original and interesting. How complex the plot or setting is presented, is a matter of personal taste. Let’s face it, no matter how you definition what a plot is, the object is to engage the reader with so much intensity that he/she simply could not put the book down. Simply put, write a great story. 2. Characters - The most intriguing element of any book is its characters. You must make the characters so vivid that they not only come alive in the reader’s mind but the reader actually transform into them. Characters can range anywhere from short outlines to profound, detailed biographies, the emphasis placed depends on the value the character brings to the story. Obviously characters must be kept in the nature of the genre. Make your characters real by association. If the reader can associate with the character, he/she can become alive in his/her qualities. 3. Style - The style you write in will become your trademark. It is what the reader will look for in your works. Be it adventure, romance or mystery, how you portray the storyline will define your novel. Is your writing well-organized and reserved or do your plots become complex and out of the ordinary? Is your vocabulary extensive or do you get right to the point? How many words are there and are they fitting to the character of the story? Do you write of romance or the deep mysteries of the mind? Each genre has a loyal reader following. People read for information or to escape into someone else. Stick to basic writing rules and limit the ue of adverbs when writing conversation. Fit the dialogue to the occasion. Use words suitable to their proper meaning and most important don’t just tell, illustrate. 4. Length - Length is somewhat self explanatory. How long is your book? The length should be appropriate to the story. Keep the length practical so it can be read in an reasonable amount of time. Don’t ramble, keep the reader engaged and energized. Sometimes less is more in writing. Stay on track and flow from start to end. Don’t write to fill pages rather write to stir the imagination Books that are too long demonstrate the ego of the writer rather than the consideration of the reader. Rambling, lengthy stories are often a sign of a wandering mind by a writer who is more interested in showing intellect rather than consideration. The same goes for novels that are too short, though this doesn’t seem to happen as often. Sometimes when characters and settings are screaming for more detail they are cut short and become dry. Adding “bulk” is important to the tempo of a novel. If too much length is bad, so also is a book that’s too short. Keeping the proper pace is important. Don’t linger yet don’t speed off. Like life, everything must come one event at a time and in order. Order keeps the reader from being confused and disenchanted. What is the main object? The main object is to keep the reader on the edge of his/her seat and glued to the story. Reach out, grab the reader and pull him/her into the story. The reader must be able to relate to your characters and feel their emotions as if they were their own. When they transform into your characters they become engaged in a personal experience of happiness, sorrow, anxiety and the other elements of your storyline. Bring the story to life. Don’t just tell a story, pull the reader in by persuading them they are living it. Make them feel what the characters feel. Send them on a journey they will remember forever. Remember the pen is a mighty tool, communicate with your reader, touch their spirit and make your story a living experience. Writing a term paper is a must for most students in college. Most college students are required by their teachers to write term papers to develop their writing skills, which they could use once they finished their course. Term paper writing had been done for centuries but sadly not all students who have undergone this type of project end up giving a substantive and excellent term paper. Many students who receive low grades and worse failing scores in their term paper blame their predicament to the fact that they do not know what are the things needed in order to write a great term paper. To all students who are about to write their term paper projects here are some tips that will help you accomplish your task with ease and in flying colors. A. Heed the instruction. One pitfall of most students why their term paper had a low grade is their failure to follow the instructions of their teacher. Many term papers end up with low grades since the students who made it had not followed the directions of the teacher giving it. Many students end up not following the proper instructions since they are afraid to ask their teacher since they do not want to be braded as dump. If you are one of these students it is time to change that mindset, students must realize that asking questions for clarification is perfectly normal in this world. Instead of criticising, you for asking question your teacher might even appreciate you more since you are sincere and serious in making sure your term paper is the best among your peers. Besides, asking questions is far better that ending up with a half bake term paper, which might cost you with low grades and even failing to pass the subject. B. Be time conscious. One basis of most teachers to rate term papers with high rate is the date it is submitted. If ever the term paper is passed on time, there is a strong tendency that the teacher will give it a high rating for punctuality. Any student who want to write a good term paper must be time conscious at all times and much as possible avoid any delay to make sure the term paper is passed on time. Working early on the project is also highly recommended so that any student who might find some trouble while doing the term paper can still has the luxury to revise or remedy any situation that might put your term paper writing at risk. C. Choose the right topic. The secret of most great term papers are is the topic chosen by the one writing it. Students tasked to write term papers should choose topics that interest them so that they will have the drive and commitment to do the project. Aside from choosing the topic that interests you, it would also be best that before you choose your topic you should make sure that you already envision the materials and research to be conducted on the term paper. Make sure the topic you choose can be researched easily so that it will not cause some headache on your part. D. Proper length of your term paper. A number of excellent term papers were judge on how substantive and clear the report and not on the number of pages. Do your best to avoid lengthy term papers since it cannot really help in increasing your grade for the project. If students can limit the number of pages do it as long as the main data of the term paper are properly explained and written. Limited number of term paper of pages also offer higher chance of getting high rating since most teachers do not really pay much attention on lengthy term papers. E. Love the Library. Excellent term papers are usually made up of well-researched data and facts. Most data and facts in term papers can be found inside the library so any student tasked to write term papers must learn to love the library. Library is defined by some as the storeroom of knowledge so to utilize some of these helpful knowledge anybody who is tasked to write a term paper must regularly visit this place for research. If you happen to fear entering a library, it is time to forego such dilemma if you are really intent of producing a good term paper; besides the library had a number of staff to assist you in your needs. If you will religiously follow these five steps, there is strong tendency that you will produce a great term paper. Wade Knoxville college papers

Computer Daze - Ways for Writing Parents to Find Time by Pamela White When I was growing up, my siblings and I fought over the bathroom. This was our battleground when we were rushing to get ready for school , bed, or, if the stars smiled on us, dates. Today the battle has shifted to the computer. If you’re like me, you need to write, but your children need (or so they think) to chat with friends or really do need to do research online or type a paper. How do you achieve a lasting peace? Think compromise and creativity. You give a little; they give a little. Here are five well-tested methods that have helped us achieve a truce, if not a complete respite from the battles over computer time. Think back to yesterday when you were just getting into the writing zone of that article on South African wines. The front door bursts open followed by your ten-year old running past on his way to the bathroom. “Mommm,” he hollers over his shoulder. “I need the computer to do my homework.” Maybe you sighed, or even resented the disruption. The first time this happened to me, I jumped up and handed my daughter complete control of my office. After thirty minutes I came in to check on her progress just in time to see her close six instant messaging windows. Now I do two things: I ask for proof or a description of the work they plan to do. Then I do a periodic walk through to see how her work is moving along. What do you do when two, three, four (or more) children need access to the internet on the same night? First, check to see that they do indeed have homework, and second, place a priority on each one’s work. If your teenage daughter has homework in five subjects but only needs the computer to type an English essay, put her last on the list. She can do her other homework while your slow-typing son with an earlier bedtime begins typing his poem, or researching the population of Nome, Alaska. If the issue is checking email and chatting with school friends online, then have them sign up for time, just like at the library. This works well for us during holidays and vacations. They can tell their friends they will be online between 2 and 3 in the afternoon when I take a break (okay, a nap). Alternatively they can walk down the sidewalk to “chat” with a friend in person! If you don’t need your computer because you are organizing published clips to include with your query letters, but still want to limit the sedentary time spent playing games on the internet, use a good old-fashioned kitchen timer. Incidentally, timers work for parents, too. Set it for 45 minutes of writing. When it reminds you time is up, move about, stretching and warming up those cramped muscles. Do you find that your children’s need to use the internet for homework and socializing is truly cutting into you own article research and market searches? This is more likely to happen with bigger families. This is also a problem for parent writers whose work takes them out of the home during school hours. Suddenly, at 5 p.m., it’s crunch time for the computer. We are fortunate in that when I married my husband, we became a blended family. Not only did he gain three amazing step-children, we each brought a computer into the union. That allowed us to designate one for the children’s use, and one for the adults. Once we signed up with the cable company for internet access, our original solution wasn’t enough to keep the peace. We still had problems during “rush hour” with serious students, socializing teens and a mother with a deadline, all trying to email, chat and research. In this case, it might be worthwhile to create a network between computers, providing internet access to both (or all) computers. Networking computers and cable connection to the internet can be expensive solutions that will pay off in better grades and more writing time. Another costly option to end the battle for computer time is to get a laptop or notebook computer. You can have all the comforts of your PC — disk drive, CD-Rom and phone line hook-up, and they are enormously easier to pack up and take on the road. This solution will allow you to write wherever and whenever the opportunity arises no matter who else is using your PC. Whether you decide to check homework assignments and check up on if it’s really being done, post sign-up sheets, use a timer, network your computers, or add a laptop, you can reduce your family’s computer daze by seeking a creative solution. Don’t let computer share time stop you from writing; find a way to work as a family so that no one is left out. Millions of companies are using keyword-rich articles in order to gain free exposure all over the Internet. Whether you’re an online marketer a product or a writer looking for freelance work, chances are you can benefit greatly from keyword articles. You may ask yourselves: “But what good are keywords? What you want, when you are marketing a product is for people to be able to easily find you. The methods you are using while searching for something specific, are the same methods all the Internet users out there utilize, that is keyword search. You shouldn’t be reluctant in writing keyword-rich articles, even though you’ve never done this before. It is nothing different than writing regular pieces of content. All you need to do is simply follow these easy guidelines for keyword writing and get ready to have readers pour in! - Learn the buzzwords. Every industry has its own jargon and language. If you’re a master in your field, it’s quite easy to identify the keywords and you don’t need to read up on it. If you’re writing about a relatively new subject for you, do some additional research. Read several different articles to get an idea of the language used and the most popular sub-categories of the field. - Write the article without focusing on the keywords. When writing an article, it’s best not to focus on the keywords so much; don’t let yourself carried away by time-wasting word-selection, which might prevent you from writing in a natural manner. If you know what you’re writing about, then keywords will smoothly fall where you want them to, without effort, and you will get your keywords without even knowing. - Determine the popularity of your keywords. Uses the Overture Keyword Selector Tool to find out how many times your visitors have used keywords that directed them to your site. inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/ Type in the word and hit return. - Select keywords that are specific rather than general. If I was to write an article on negotiating fees with a freelance copywriter, then I would use popular keywords, related to my topic, such as “Freelance copywriting rates” as this is probably something a potential visitor would actually type. - Scan your existing text for keywords After completing your draft and selecting your keywords, put them together. Try to find the first keyword. You might as well have slipped it there, if you knew how to write your article. - Find and Change Instead of using the word “writing” in your article about copywriting, “copywriting” should be a better choice. Change all these keyword-phrases and re-order some of your sentences. - Proofread your article Read the text again, now that you have changed it, take time to correct it; check for spelling mistakes, etc. Try not to repeat the same word, and try to make your vocabulary as varied as possible. - Include the keywords in your headline You will usually come up with the best headline for your article at the end of the writing process, and not before, so wait until you finish and then you will get the best hard-hitting headline. Are you feeling more comfortable now about keyword article writing? You can start making money by writing keyword-rich content for the world.
