The movie ‘Sunset Boulevard’ depicts the callous and unworthy, to an extent wicked, attitude of the Hollywood film industry. The movie brings out the unwarranted treatment meted out to its own stars of the past. When the silent cinema graduated to talkies, the film industry moved ahead, propelled by its selfish motives, leaving behind the legends of yester years to rot in their past glory, as they had no place or role to play in the present industry scenario. The most affected characters in the movie are Joe Gillis, a screenwriter, and Norma Desmond, an undisputed queen of silent cinema. Joe Gillis, a modern day screenwriter known for his originality, find his scripts losing charm and not able to impress the customers. He is totally depressed and financially broke. His one time appreciated and acclaimed quality of being ‘close to reality’ writing, no more generates any interest among the leading industry directors and producers. The burden of life is compounded by bloodhounds tracking him for running three payments behind for his car. He finds difficult to even afford a single room apartment, he stays in. With all doors shut, absolutely no work or support from industry or friends (including his agent), he accidentally comes in contact with Norma who employs him for writing screenplay for a script written by her. Considering his state of affairs and driven to the post, he stoops down to accept the offer, knowing the lowly credentials of the script. Norma Desmond portrays a middle aged woman and a legendary star of silent movies. She lives in a desolate place, in euphoria of the past glory without accepting the bitter reality of her present day status in the film industry. She lives in a dream world of making a great return in the industry that has forgotten her. She is obsessed for the script that she has written for her return to silver screen. The emptiness and solitude of her life has driven her to mental instability. Norma is the employer while Joe is the employee. Norma, being mentally unstable, has an obsession for all her possessions. Joe, compelled by the circumstances, falls prey to Norma’s obsession. She considers him to be her property and showers a handful of presents on him with an expectation of being loyal to her. Joe is unable to appreciate this gesture in his youthfulness and considers being trapped with his independence endangered. He is forced to stay with her like a puppet with the strings being controlled by Norma. He wants to live and enjoy his life and relations with Ms Banter, but can’t pursue it owing to the jealous Norma, his employer. Norma has an ongoing conflict with the cinema. She discards the latest developments in the industry and considers the silent era to be the best. She goes on to criticize the latest stars in the industry and believes them to be sub-standard when compared to her own self. She charges the industry for bringing disrepute and decline of the past stars and industry as is evident from one of her dialogues; “Look at them in the front offices— the master minds! They took the idols and smashed them The Fairbankses and the Chaplins and the Gilberts and the Valentinos. And who have they got now? Some nobodies—-a lot of pale little frogs croaking pish-posh!” The article was produced by the writer of Essay-Paper.net. You can gather research materials online more efficiently by selecting the right web navigation tools. Follow our Internet research tips to acquire the information that you need with greater speed and ease. Your situation: I am doing preliminary online research to help me to select a research topic. Internet research tip: Visit an online directory to see a variety of topics that you might not otherwise consider researching. Online directories, like the Open Directory Project (dmoz.org), divide web resources into categories. Online directories generally list better quality resources than search engines do. Humans, instead of software, evaluate the best sites on the web and place them into directories’ appropriate categories. It can be more helpful to see a list of potential topics in a directory, than it is to look at a search engine’s blank text field. Your situation: My research topic is too broad. I need to find a subtopic to narrow my research focus and I do not know how the Internet can help me. Internet research tip: If your research topic is broad, then it is likely to appear as a category within an online directory. You can choose a specific aspect of your topic to focus on by browsing its subcategories. You can find more defined credible subtopic resources if you can locate a directory that is entirely devoted to your topic. Your situation: I have a defined thesis statement and I have done some research. I need to find more supporting facts from outside sources. Internet research tip: Because you are looking for potential sources, you will want to be certain that they are authored by field experts or scholars. Visit your school or library’s Internet databases to search for credible information related to your thesis. If you need help selecting or finding an appropriate database, then ask a librarian for advice. Your situation: I am looking for a specific fact or web page that I previously neglected to document. Internet research tip: The best method of locating specific facts or web pages is to do a search query using the unique, but pertinent, parts of the fact or page as keywords. If you tend to use a particular search engine, such as google.com, take the time to learn which words it ignores and how to properly execute a Boolean search. Be sure to evaluate the site’s credibility and motives before selecting it as a research material. Your situation: I cannot find the information or facts that I need on the web. Internet research tip: You can find the information or facts you need by submitting your questions to a newsgroup or e-mail discussion group. Group members are often experts in your research field who can answer your questions. Refer to tile.net/news/, a newsgroup directory, for help choosing appropriate newsgroups for your research topics. Your situation: Many of my print and Internet sources are outdated. How do I find current information relevant to my topic on the Internet? Internet research tip: Online newspaper publications, such as nytimes.com, provide current and well-dated information. Online broadcast news sites, like cnn.com, also provide an archive of searchable and well-dated information. Watching and listening to news sites’ multimedia is an excellent way to learn recent news about your topic that is not available on video. Knowing how to gather information will help you to save more time to reflect on your research materials. By researching more efficiently, you give yourself more time to analyze, contemplate, and respond to your sources in your notes, drafts, and final research paper.

“Bo, you’re wrong. Poverty is a matter of fate…” He came up to me right after I gave a talk on financial literacy. The man spoke to me with the gravity of a Supreme Court Justice, it scared me. “Why do you say that, sir?” I asked. “Because there are people who are born poor,” the man said, “And there are people who are born rich. That’s destiny. That’s the will of God.” I winced. How could I tell him that I’ve been working for years (no, decades) with the poor
The handwritings of the famous and the infamous analyzed… Bill Gates *Bill Gates’ high, upper zone extensions (A1, A2) as compared to his small middle zone letters (a, c, e, etc.) reflect a need to be on top of others-mentally. His fast-paced writing shows mental speed. The slashed j dot (B) and those unnecessary initial strokes (C1, C2) shout argumentativeness, cynicism and irritability. The right slanted angular writing broadcasts aggressiveness. The long, rightward extensions (D1, D2) tell of a sympathetic, generous personality. His left margin (E) is exceptionally even, this is indicative of a unique and exceedingly organized intellect. Career Test comments: “When coupling this with all of the letters that are shaped as numbers (F1-F4), it is not surprising how Mr. Gates has been so successful.” Britney Spears *Britney Spears’ handwriting is round, which reveals a childish, soft manner. Her middle zone letters (a, c, e, etc.) predominate, she is totally in the here and now. What are important to her are everyday matters. Her writing pressure is light, indicating a general lack of resistance. This can get her into trouble, as her ‘inner strength’ is weak. Her low upper zones (A1, A2) point to a practical, non-philosophical view of life. Career Test comments: “Ear-minded people frequently spell poorly in English. The language has many words that sound alike but spelled differently, and others that are spelled alike but are pronounced differently. Such persons tend to spell words phonetically, but in English, this is frequently misspelling. Such people are likely to omit punctuation marks-comma, colon and exclamation point. Notice two misspelled words in this short note (B1, B2). Ear minded people are often very successful when selling to an audience. Aside from all of her other winning traits, Britney Spears is instinctively a musician.” Osama Bin Laden *The epithet, “the most hated person in America,” has been aptly attributed to none other than Osama Bin Laden. Many psychoanalysts have developed personality evaluations of him. Graphologists have noted that his large-size signature, especially when it is compared to his smaller, Arabic writing, reflects an enormous ego. He is also depressed and feels undervalued, indicated by the descending end stroke of his signature. Psychoanalysts and graphologists agree that having an enormous ego, yet feeling truly undervalued, triggered his depression. Like other, less notorious sociopaths, he takes his hatred out on society. The first round shaped letter in his signature is encircled several times, reflecting the feeling that he is living in a world of his own imagination. Bin Laden is trying to protect himself by not allowing anyone in. He is extremely egocentric. His heavy-pressured writing reveals an above-average libido as well as intense anger. In the image below: line 1 - “Your Brother,” line 2 - Bin Laden’s name printed, line 3 - Bin Laden’s signature The graphological interpretation of this type of personality is that he would be likely to exhibit animosity. However, there are many people who possess similar styles of writings and they do not wage war on society. Is there some other factor in addition to Bin Laden’s handwriting that reflects the difference? In the same fashion that his written signature projects his anger and animosity, so, too, is the revealing visual of his signature weapon, the Kalatchnikov rifle. Many graphologists have stated that the Western rules of analyzing handwriting do not apply to Arabic. Generally, this is correct. Size, pressure, etc., can also be analyzed. One’s country of origin must be taken into consideration for an accurate graphological evaluation. Two identical writings of different people from different regions of the world may have different meanings. A Middle Easterner’s signature, regardless of whether a Western graphologist can analyze it, does broadcast the writer’s personality. Preoccupation with profession and lifestyle are frequently symbolized in the signature. The deciphering of such symbols is important for psychologists and psychiatrists. Certain graphologists, particularly the internationally known Rafael Schermann, have concentrated on this aspect of graphology. Understanding the politics and religions of the region into which Osama Bin Laden was born and raised assist in the understanding and interpretation of his signature and textual writings. Psychoanalysts, taking into account the intense hatred that Bin Laden possesses, recognize that he will try to strike again. Graphological ethics preclude predictions. Adolf Hitler *The vulgar-looking and ornate capital letter (Figure 1) has a vertical line added in unnecessarily between the left and right parts. Obviously, this writer displays an undue claim of self-importance. Adolf Hitler wrote this way. (Many graphologists believe that the vertical line represented his moustache.) In the above images, we can observe many peculiar aspects. The slant. By measuring figure 2A with a protractor, you will notice that the capital H measures 28 degrees of incline; at the end of his name, the incline has become an acute 14 degrees. (Any slant measuring less than 55 degrees must be considered pathological.) Not only does Hitler’s writing start out pathologically, it becomes more so as it continues. His last letter is almost horizontal. Considering that slant indicates the degree of approach to others, we see here an intense need of some kind or desperate grab toward his fellowman. The fact that the writing looks as if it were falling shows acute depression. Pressure. The extreme pressure in both specimens indicates a powerful, physical dynamo of energy when dealing with his fellowman. t bars. In Figure 2B, we see a thick, heavy, brutal-looking t bar, written in a downward direction. This t bar shows us how Der Fuhrer approaches the addressee. Hitler’s down-flung t bar, written with heavy pressure (even without his acutely inclined writing) leaves us in no doubt how he could become the monster that he was. These down-flung t-bars indicate the writer’s low opinion of “his fellow man.” It was not difficult for Hitler to do away with others. Capital letters. The name is the ego, and any capital letter also indicates the writer’s ego state. Consequently, the capital letter of the name has an especially important meaning in interpreting the writer’s ego. Look at both 2A and 2B. The name is already written with a thick hand. Then Hitler adds something quite unnecessary to the capital in his surname - a vertical bar. This ugly, vulgar-looking, heavy, down-flung line, a tasteless ornamentation to an already ugly character, proclaims a deformed and depraved ego. If the world had recognized this depravity in his writing before his rise to power, would it have made any difference? One wonders. Albert Einstein *How does the writing of Albert Einstein reflect genius? It looks so simple! The truth is that simplicity is one of the keys to superior intellect. Career Test comments: “A small middle zone is necessary for high powers of concentration. At some points, Einstein’s middle zone becomes microscopic. Notice how extremely even the left margin is as it descends, showing a sense of order. Add to this the many exactly placed i dots, and we have an extreme sense of order and an exacting memory. Cautious by nature (also indicated by the exactly placed i dots), Professor Einstein adds a dot after his surname-just a precaution. His clearmindedness and creative ability are shown by not allowing one letter to protrude into another in the lines above or below.” Yet the most striking characteristic seems to be his t crossings. Observe their individualistic, even strange, maneuverability in the upper (intellectual) zone. It is difficult to describe what Einstein does in this region, as it is to define genius. Barack Obama *A handwriting analysis of Democratic presidential candidates Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama reveals complex personalities who are dealing with several emotional issues - some successfully, and some with difficulty. Sen. Barack Obama’s huge signature is eye-catching. Graphologically speaking, this reflects a tremendous desire to be the center of attention. His handwriting divulges self-confidence, along with unresolved childhood issues. The rightward extensions at the end of his first and last names (A1, A2) are like a self-portrait showing that there is more to him than just a name. Career Test Comments: “A small middle zone (B1, B2) in his John Hancock represents strong powers of concentration. People who have small middle-zone letters (a, c, e and any letter that does not have an upper or lower loop), possess great proficiency in doing work, requiring attention to detail. Many scientists, Einstein among them, have very small or even microscopic middle-zone letters.” These lines are also written in a wavy fashion, without distinct shape. This shows changeability. The diplomat, who must often evade ticklish situations and not commit to a particular course of action, writes in this manner. Wavy-lined writing also denotes versatility. There are no beginning strokes in Obama’s signature (see C). This signifies someone who gets right down to the point without commotion. It is the handwriting of the mature individual. His writing has much rhythm, charm, pressure and bounce. Combined with the openness on top of the “a” (see D), which indicates fluency, the Illinois senator radiates self-assurance and energy and is a quick-witted speaker. Hillary Clinton *An analysis of Clinton’s signature reveals that she is not as cold as rumored. Many politicians, due to their public lives, feel the need to impose a safeguard, and although her bolt-upright signature shows a cool approach to others, the body of her writing, “the real Hillary,” does lean somewhat rightward toward her fellow man, reflecting some warmth. Career Test comments: “Her printed capital letters (G1, G2) denote intelligence and culture. The breaks between letters (H) imply intuition. The spacing between the lines (I1, I2) is a little wider than average. This, combined with those needle pointed tops (J1-J3), points to an analytical and sharp mind. There are virtually no beginning strokes before the letters; this person is to-the-point. The unizonal letters (a, c, e, etc.) are small, illustrating the ability to focus. No lines are tangled; this displays one who is clearheaded. These are the components of the “born lawyer.’” At the end of the first line of a letter, a writer stops where it seems most appropriate and returns to the left margin to start a second line. Clinton moves the starting point of the written lines more and more to the right (K), toward the right margin; the left margin widens. This signifies both enthusiasm and impatience. A wife who writes her husband’s family name, or the initial of it, with considerably greater emphasis than that with which she writes her own initials, indicates that she thinks she has married “above her station.” The converse is also true: If a woman writes her husband’s surname smaller, or if she writes its initial noticeably smaller than the initials of her own name, she demonstrates a low opinion of him, his family or both. In this signature, the first name has considerably greater emphasis than the family name. This speaks for itself. Notice that the cross bar joins the following letter (L1-L4). This reveals a clever combination of thoughts, the quality of the crossword puzzle-player, who can solve abstract and intricate difficulties and has the capacity to be open to experience. When we use the word miracle the first scenario that comes to mind is some unimaginable, unforeseen and quite out of the blue occurrence of events. Winning the lottery would be considered by some to be a miracle; meeting the man or woman of our dreams and falling in love would be another and of course, the birth of Jesus, the ultimate miracle. Do we ever look at our mundane daily lives and consider them a miracle also? I’m sixty two years of age and so far I’ve been amazingly fortunate to have had only minor physical ailments in my life; to me, that’s a miracle. I have two beautiful daughters who have produced three spectacular granddaughters; that’s a miracle. My family lives in close proximity to me, lucky me or is it another miracle? My point is that we always think that” the grass is greener on the other side” and never really stop to look at what a miracle it is just to be living in a country where we reside in houses instead of dirt shacks; we always have enough food on the table; we have heat in the winter, air conditioning in the summer. We have clean water to drink and clothes on our back. We take these things for granted but aren’t they really miracles! The holidays always seem to bring out the best and worst in our personalities. We look back on our childhood experiences of Christmas and reminisce about the “good ole days” but weren’t these memories just superlatively pleasant because we were young, innocent and just in awe of life. Perhaps, our best chance to experience a true Christmas miracle is through the eyes of our children and grandchildren. My youngest daughter is expecting another baby. Her first daughter was born on my birthday, coincidence or miracle? I vow to look at this holiday season with all of its turbulent emotional ups and downs, its financial insanity, its frantic insatiability, its jubilant reckoning and call it the miracle of Christmas! Not long ago, circulating your writing to a wide-spread reading circle took a great deal of effort, time and money. But now, thanks to the internet, you can easily do all the communication you want to do with minimal expense and a moderate amount of research. Even if you are leading a hectic life, time does not pose an issue especially if you have a flair for writing and communication. The quickest ways of moving ahead with your writing may be in the following route. All these are tried-and-tested ways to start, and every professional blogger or writer has adhered to at least two of these methods religiously, to reach their current position of popularity: 1. Leaving a comment on someone else’s blog or article. 2. Join in a discussion board or forum that grabs your interest. 3. Writing a book or film review at any popular marketing site is a must. 4. Starting your own blog or online community is a great idea. 5. Publishing an e-Zine or Newsletter if you have enough interest on something great or trivial. 6. Submitting articles to a blog carnival that reviews your field of interest. 7. Publishing an e-book can be good promotion. 8. Publishing a booklet or pamphlet that introduces others to your field of interest. 9. Developing your own website with regular upgrades. 10. Publishing a book in real when you have enough materials accrued. The two major ways you can head-out on your dream projects in the written-word are by joining in on conversations and by starting your own as well. However, you must note that just focusing on starting your own conversation without joining in will not help. Contribute your ideas, comments, opinions and information to on-going discussions. Initially, you will be viewed as an outsider but soon enough, with continued involvement, you will be soon a welcomed candidate. While on the other hand, if you just happen to dart in with loads of heavy stuff you might be side-tracked or belittled initially. Remember that it happens to every new contributor to any community, but surely this will never pose as a long-term problem assuming that your ideas are open, valid, related to the situations and of course there is no spoofing! As you begin to leave comments on other people’s blogs, you will soon become a familiar reader and contributor, and yes, do leave the impression that you have actually read the material. Forget old fashioned niceties and be honest to yourself, but that doesn’t mean you are allowed to be abusive no matter what! A balance of appreciation along with the feedback of what you truly feel is important. Participating in online conversations is quite akin to our real-life scenarios. Hence we cannot just jump on a discussion. We have to know what is really going on. Your knowledge and passion on the existing topic would be beneficial, but you have to let your discussion evolve, and then go with the flow. But remember - going with the flow does not mean getting sucked up by the waves and with online discussions you have the opportunity to overcome many a social dilemmas that you will come across. The quicker you get to deal with them the better, so be open, but don’t forget the core meaning of your participation. And most importantly - whether you agree or disagree you must make comment respectfully, otherwise no one is going to welcome you to the online blogging community.
